“The thirteenth year” by Samad Alizadeh has been selected at 42. Uppsala Short Film Festival, Sweden. The Iranian short film is included in the Children’s Competition program.

Uppsala is an 𝐎𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 and is also recognised by the European Film Academy and BAFTA. It’s the Sweden’s major short film festival, and has since its beginning in 1982 established itself as one of Europe’s most important short film festivals.

“The thirteenth year” by Samad Alizadeh

In Iran there are some norms against women and girls in most families. In this film, the director tried to narrate this important issue that influences the behavior of children, especially a teenager during her puberty.
Helia, the protagonist, has become thirteen and this led her family to restrict her from cycling.
