“I wanted to be Vittorio Gassman” (Volevo essere Gassman) by Cristian Scardigno won the Best International Short-Film Award at Fort Smith International Film Festival, Arkansas, USA.

The 3rd Annual Fort Smith International Film Festival took place in Arkansas, USA on August 25 and 26, 2023. The theme of the festival was “[re]Focused,” which celebrated the storytelling renaissance by filmmakers who suffered production obstacles posed by the global pandemic.

The short film

Italy in the early 60’s, the classic Italian comedy and Aldo Marianecci. “I wanted to be Vittorio Gassman” is a mix of these three elements: a decade and an iconic genre in the history of Italian cinema and a heartfelt tribute to a real life character.

Synopsis

1962. Aldo Marianecci, a 40-year-old actor seeking his big break, returns to his hometown of Cisterna di Latina. He will spend the weekend with his lifelong buddies and with a young American woman he met on a movie set in Rome. His days will go by waiting for a call that might finally change his life.
