Director statement

The idea was born following real circumstances: situations and moments that have accompanied me for a short period of my life. The reasons that prompted me to tell this story are varied; first of all I would like to recall the figure of my grandfather, to whom I am still very attached in my memory. “Waiting here” is based on true events; circumstances experienced during my childhood from which my mind tried to protect me by obscuring some details. This work is an opportunity to try to analyze past events and look for meaning. The idea for this short film was therefore born from the set of various memories and visions that finally determined the urgency of telling this story.

Andrea is an affectionate, sunny and nice child, but something changes in him. He withdraws into himself and faces everything with an apparent tranquility and external superficiality. In the meetings he appears serene, self-confident and does not understand the reason for some things, which he takes for granted.

The figure of Anna is that of a classic sweet and caring mother, apprehensive about what is happening to her son. Try to give Andrea the right help by relying on the judgment of the representatives of two important categories in the society of our century: science and faith. In them, Andrea sees an incomprehensible desire to find an answer to this behavior of his which, subconsciously, he already knows.

The figure of Francesco, the grandfather, an extremely good man and extremely close to his nephew, is the pivot of the whole story. Through his grandfather’s memories, Andrea recalls past moments and clings to them until the last goodbye, when he decides to let him go forever.
