22° Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro

The Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro is the most important prize in Brazilian cinema, awarded annually by the Academia Brasileira de Cinema. It is an award organized and voted by the professionals themselves and an Oscar Qualifying Film Festivals.

The short film

“Through the deep west” was produced in São Paulo’s countryside, with young non-actors, and its screenplay was developed based on real stories of a group of young men from a neighborhood in the margin of a small city called Assis.
The movie follows Luquinha and friends who are trying to rescue a lost horse, and in this way it tries to builds a social portrait of contemporary Brazil, in a naturalist way at first, that evolves into a more magical realist western in order to represent the contradictions of the youth in the outskirst of Assis — a once rural place that has how expelled once rural workers to the outskirts of small towns.

The short film, distributed by Esen Studios, was produced by the Oeste Cooperativa Audiovisival.
